Creative Writing

During each club meeting, students will learn creative writing skills which they can practice in a relaxed and social atmosphere. The club is both fun and informative and allows members to practice writing fiction, poetry, lyrics, plays, art and more. Parents/guardians must provide transportation home for their child.
MathCounts!

The Math Counts Competition Program is designed to excite and challenge middle school students. With four levels of competition: school, chapter (local), state and national. The Competition Program provides students with the incentive to prepare throughout the school year to represent their schools at these Math Counts hosted events.
MESA

Maryland MESA is a structured, K-12, pre college program designed to prepare students for academic and professional careers in mathematics, engineering, science, and technology. The program's goals are to (1) increase the number of engineers, scientists, mathematicians, and related professionals at technical and management levels, and (2) serve as a driving force in encouraging and assisting minorities and females in achieving success in these fields. We continue to strive towards our vision of providing a superior education process that enables all Maryland students to achieve and contribute to their full potential.

The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding middle school students. More than just an honor roll, NJHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, Character, and Citizenship. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginnings in 1929.

The Student Government Association (SGA) is a student-led organization committed to providing leadership opportunities for students, and to serving the school and community. All SMS students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade are eligible to join, and there is no fee for joining.
SGA is currently accepting new members! To join, have your student complete the online form. They will then receive an invitation to join our team and see meeting invitations on their calendar.

The Yearbook Committee is comprised of 6 th , 7 th , and 8 th graders working together to plan, develop, and sell Yearbooks to students in the school for lasting memories. The Committee is split into 3 teams: Photography, Layout, and Sales. The Photography Team assists with Picture Day planning, organizing photos, and uploading photos to the web site. The Layout Team designs the pages included in the Yearbook. The Sales Team is responsible for flyers promoting sales and selling the Yearbooks.
